Acclaimed young actor Aaron Johnson and his director fiancee Sam Taylor-Wood dazzled the red carpet on Monday night at a charity premiere of their new film at Liverpool One.

"Nowhere Boy" tells the story of John Lennon's childhood, from growing up in Liverpool alongside George Harrison and Paul McCartney, to forming The Beatles.

The film stars Hollywood superstar Kristin Scott-Thomas, but on-screen drama has been overshadowed by off-screen romance between 19-year-old Johnson and Sam Taylor Wood, who is 23 years his senior.

The 42-year-old director was formerly married to powerful art dealer Jay Jopling, who has been the influence behind a number of high-profile exhibitions, including Damien Hirst.

However she has recently announce her engagement to teenage star Johnson, after they fell for each other on the set of Nowhere Boy.

Unable to supress her obvious delight, Taylor-Wood said: "It's been the most wonderful surprise, I never expected anything like this to happen.

"We're very happy together, and are hoping to get married next August. I'm not really sure how it all happened, but we slowly grew closer and in the end I just thought, go for it.

"It's been absolutely fantastic."

Asked whether Johnson had surprised her with his portrayal of the iconic figure, she said: "He's very intense, the second I met him I knew he was right for John Lennon.

"Even if I was looking for someone again, now that we are together, I'd still choose him. I'm so proud of what we've achieved together."

The pair posed for photographs together at the Liverpool premiere, holding hands embracing before the young star signed autographs for waiting fans.

Earlier in the day, the pair were spotted kissing passionately outside the city's 5-star Hard Day's Night Hotel, where they have been staying together.

The promising star became a teen hearthrob after his role in "Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging", and found critical acclaim alongside Edward Norton in "The Illusionist", and is tipped to be a major movie star in the future.

I think it's wrong to be honest, he's still a child compared to her and he's getting married much too young.
