Click Liverpool visited Studio 45 - the new home of hair and beauty in the city to sit in the chair of its guru Zak Coldicutt.

The Liverpool-born style specialist rose to fame after moving to New York and working with celebrities at some of the biggest red carpet events in the world including the Oscars.

Now Zak Coldicutt is bringing Manhattan glamour back home to rule the roost in Liverpool.

Studio 45 is based within Liverpool's Georgian architectural gem Seymour Terrace, near Lime Street.

Recent clients include Alex Curran and Louise Redknapp.

Studio 45 is a new and exciting direction for premiere model and events agency Pulse and complete with its own photo studio its a real creative fashion hub.

Zak's accent is infectious, a blend of Liverpool and the Big Apple. His favoured words, which are right out of the Manhattan glitz phrasebook are 'Mega' and 'Epic.'

How long will it be before he starts dropping in a few 'sounds' and 'boss lad' we wonder?

Zak said: "It's amazing how much Liverpool has changed while I was in New York.

"For me, the two cities share a familiar vibe and the people are similar, hard-nosed with a great sense of humour and warmth.

"Everywhere you go now, this city is buzzing with energy. Apart from exploring parts of Europe on some gettaways - I wouldn't want to be anywhere else - Liverpool is mega.

"All the other creative and business people are driven to do well to do well, which will be Epic."

Zak's boldest move was setting up his own business - House of Coldicutt, which saw him handling the hair and make-up needs of NYC's exclusive set.

No stranger to hard graft to climb the Big Apple's social ladder, Zak scooped the top job in US TV - the national show Good Morning America.

As his reputation for excellence soared, he also began working with American Idol star Randy Jackson, Mel B and handled the wedding hair and make-up for Billy Joel and his wife JJ Philbin.

He’s also worked his magic on Broadway, backstage at The Grammy’s and the Oscars.

Zak said: “People have asked me who the most important person is I’ve ever worked with?

"I always answer, whoever is in my chair at the time. My customers are the most important people, whoever it might be."

But he returned home after 14 years to work with cosmetic giant MAC. But it was one fateful day at Aintree Racecourse that Zak met Pulse founder Irene Bird and the Studio 45 concept was born.

He added: "I’m a strong believer in destiny and when the opportunity arose to come back home, it felt like the right time."

And Zak, as those who know him will attest is generous to a fault, makes sure theat everybody gets the very best treatment and leaves the salon looking like a million dollars and often with his latest new favoured products to maintain the look.

He is most proud is being among the first to bring Airbrush make-up to the city.

“It uses a very fine pigment and creates a flawless finish. It’s stunning, is used by a lot of celebrities on the red carpet now we’re offering it."
