Staff at University Hospital Aintree are marking the anniversary of the NHS by giving members of the public a rare chance for behind-the-scenes look at how the hospital works.
The NHS was founded in July 1948, and hospital staff are marking its 'birthday' by holding an open day to celebrate on Saturday 3rd July.
The event, which is free and suitable for all ages, runs from 10.30am to 2.30pm. Visitors will have a chance to take free tours giving glimpses into areas normally out of bounds to members of the public, including operating theatres and the hospital's 'quick cleaning' area for beds.
There will also be trips to see the hospitals radiology department, which has received state-of-the-art equipment as part of a £9 million upgrade programme, and the new £34 million Elective Care Centre. Youngsters can try their hand at using surgical equipment, and the hospitals' Superlambananas and Go Penguins will be on display.
The Trust's Volunteers Service will be giving the guided tours regularly throughout the open day - visitors should simply follow the signs or come to the main hospital reception.
The North West Ambulance Service will have a rapid response vehicle along, and there's also the chance to talk to teams who work in the hospital including:
- The Infection Prevention Team
- The new Customer Services Team
- Physiotherapy
- Smoking Cessation Team
Active Sefton will also be on hand to give healthy living tips.
