'Engage' to hold city centre residents conference in Liverpool

City centre residents in Liverpool are being given the chance to speak their minds about inner-city living.

All 25,000 residents are invited to attend a conference this weekend to help iron out problems with city centre dwelling and tackle the issues faced by leaseholders in apartment blocks.

Liverpool is the only area in the country that has a single organisation to represent the needs of all its city centre residents.

‘Engage’ is a resident-led initiative that brings together leaseholders and residents from Liverpool Waterfront and City Centre apartments under one umbrella to discuss and share issues affecting them, to agree solutions, and take collective action.

Engage was set up by Liverpool City Council, the Federation of Liverpool Waterfront Residents Associations and Liverpool City Centre Leaseholders' Federation with support from Plus Dane Group.

Engage is hosting the free Liverpool Leaseholders Annual Conference at ACC Liverpool this Saturday 12th June from 9.30am – 1pm. Free refreshments will be available.

The Engage initiative has helped with problems such as poor management agents who receive substantial service charges but provide little for the money. Noise is also a common issue and Engage is also helping tackle problems with apartments in residential blocks let for stag and hen weekends.

Leader of Liverpool City Council Joe Anderson said: “We are delighted to support Engage and Saturday’s Leaseholder’s Conference.

"We are determined to tackle any issues experienced by our city centre residents. We want all people in Liverpool to have access to decent homes and a decent quality of life.

“The conference is about helping making our communities as safe and as healthy an environment for residents as possible. The city council will work with landlords and management agents to help deal with any problems they are having with tenants.

"But landlords who allow their properties to be used for criminal and anti-social activities or managing agents who do not keep properties to a decent standard should beware.”

Chair of Engage Gerry Proctor said: “We are bringing residents together to seek solutions to common problems and make Liverpool city centre a better place to live.

"I want to invite any residents of apartment blocks in the City Centre and Waterfront to come to this free conference and make your living environment better.

"Come and have your say, influence policy, listen to the experiences of other residents, and discover the progress being made in tackling leaseholder issues.”
