The housing association Liverpool Mutual Homes(LMH) has landed a top prize at the UK Housing Heroes Awards in London.

The awards were established in 2009 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the many unsung heroes working in the housing sector.

LMH’s Safer Estates Team collected the Frontline Housing Team of the Year award for their work on the Fountains Estate in Liverpool to improve community safety and bring improvements to the area.

The multi-agency Intensive Community Payback (ICP) project required unemployed adult offenders to work five days a week in the community where they committed their offence. In total 3,000 hours of community service was undertaken by offenders to clear 160 tonnes of debris and help bring communal areas back into use for residents.

LMH’s Safer Estates Team collected their award at the Hilton Hotel from BBC TV personality Ben Fogle. In total, awards were presented in 15 different categories in an event organised jointly by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing magazine.

The Chartered Institute of Housing’s Kathy Hanson said: “This impressive multi-agency project has helped to target a crime hotspot in North Liverpool.

"Faced with severe anti-social behaviour and crime the project has held offenders to account as part of their rehabilitation. In return residents have been able to re-claim communal areas for people to enjoy. An extremely impressive project.”
