St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in Merseyside are hosting ‘Making Sense’ a national conference on dementia for healthcare professionals at The Crowne Plaza, Speke, Liverpool on 24th November 2009 from 9.15am to 4.30pm.
The conference has been designed by the Trust to provide healthcare professionals with the training and skills needed to care for patients with dementia and meet the challenges outlined in a recent report by the Alzheimer’s Society.
Dr Jacqui Bussin, Consultant in medicine for older people said: “A quarter of people in general hospitals have dementia. They face worse outcomes than those without dementia. They have longer lengths of hospital stay, a higher risk of discharge into care homes and higher mortality rate. The ‘Making Sense’ national conference aims to help healthcare staff meet the challenges of caring for patients with dementia by equipping them with the right skills.
Ann Marr, Chief Executive said: “Hosting this national conference on dementia highlights the Trust’s leading role in caring for patients with dementia. The Trust aims to ensure that the people with dementia that we care for receive the highest possible quality of care in the most appropriate environment.”
