Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has retained its Level 2 status with the NHS Litigation Authority (NHSLA) and received a commendation from the NHSLA Assessment Team. This independent rating shows that the Trust can set and maintain a high and safe standard of service for all its’ patients.

The NHSLA set clinical risk management standards which aim to ensure a standardised and safe level of service across the NHS. It assesses on five standards: clinical care, safe environment, workforce, learning from experience and governance. Assessors spent two days at the Trust which runs Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge Hospitals and provides services at Wallasey Health Centre and St. Catherine’s Hospital, checking that the standards the Trust sets itself are met in reality.

Trust Chief Executive David Allison said: “We are delighted to have retained our NHSLA level, especially in light of the fact that this year part of the assessment was changed to make it even more robust and included sampling of patient case notes. The Assessment Team commended the Trust for the quality of the information presented and the application of processes across the Trust.

“This assessment confirms the effectiveness of our patient-centred systems and processes and provides a reassurance to patients that independent scrutiny has determined that the services we provide are safe.”
