A Liverpool initiative to get people fitter by taking exercise has been awarded a national gong.
The Walk for Health Liverpool scheme has been singled out for accreditation for the third year running by Natural England.
Walk for Health Liverpool runs a programme of healthy walks around the city aimed mainly at individuals who take little or no excercise.
This month it won the national award after demonstrating it has successfully met the required criteria - including offering led walks for beginners and following Walking for Health best practise to ensure walks are run safely.
Now as an accredited scheme, Walk for Health Liverpool will benefit from being seen as part of a nationally evaluated programme as well as being formally recognised by health professionals, prospective partners and funders.
Delighted Andy Ireland, Walking for Health coordinator for Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, said: “This is the third year in a row Walk for Health Liverpool has attained the accreditation from Natural England.
“The whole team has worked incredibly hard in setting up, developing and expanding around 40 different walks in Liverpool and this is a just reward for all the hard work that’s been put in”
Walk for Health Liverpool welcomes new walkers throughout the year. Thirteen walks take place seven days a week starting from a variety of locations around the city.
