Housing Association hope to boost young peoples job prospects

A company investing in neighbourhoods across Merseyside and Cheshire has teamed up with the city council in an effort to help struggling young people from Liverpool find work.

Plus Dane’s aim is to create and sustain vibrant communities for people to live, and own around 15,000 homes throughout the region.

They are sponsoring 14 apprenticeship roles, partly funded by the council, in a range of different trades, as well as providing background in other areas of the housing industry.

The new recruits will join 17 existing apprentices already being trained by Plus Dane at six colleges throughout the region.

It is part of a wider investment that will see £300,000 spent on trying to improve the job prospects for young people, and has been backed by the leader of the city council Joe Anderson.

He said: “This is an exciting and innovative scheme to help people into work and I am delighted to support it.

“These are tough times for Merseyside but when you see companies working with us and going the extra mile to open up opportunities for young people it is something to cheer about.

“We have made great strides in recent years in improving exam results for our young people, but there still remains a skills gap which means many of our residents are unable to get a job.

“We are committed to developing a highly-skilled and motivated workforce ready to take advantage of improvements in the economy in future years, and apprenticeships are vital in helping us to do that.”
