The Government has signaled that it wants to tackle public health by helping the public rather than using enforcement.
Measures recommended in a White Paper are aimed at “nudging” the public to be more healthy and giving them the support they need, rather than using legislation and penalising measures.
According to city charity Health@Work, which implements some of Liverpool’s key health campaigns, the city is already leading the way in this type of public health campaign.
Frances Molloy said: “Working with Liverpool PCT we have been implementing a number of public health campaigns which use supportive measures and we should be proud that the city is foremost in public health policy.”
Liverpool charity Health@Work funded by Liverpool PCT is currently involved in a number of campaigns, from tackling alcohol misuse in the city through awareness raising campaigns, to working with employers to help staff who may have health issues.
The charity is also active in working with Liverpool businesses, offering free advice to create healthy workplaces and promote balanced diets and regular exercise amongst city workers.
Health@Work offers support and advice to businesses and individuals in all aspects of workplace health, if you require more details on the services they offer call 0151 236 6608 or e-mail info@healthatworkcentre.org.uk
