A handy health information card offering advice on issues young people want to know about but may be too embarrassed to ask has been published by NHS Central Lancashire.
Funded by the Lancashire Teenage Pregnancy Partnership, the iHaveInformation card has contact details on a range of issues including healthy eating, drugs and alcohol, stopping smoking, domestic violence and volunteering.
The card highlights areas such as sexual health and not only gives information about contraception and sexually transmitted infections but directs young people to local services and ensures they know what help is available to them. Improving communication with young people and raising awareness of services is a vital part of the primary care trust’s approach to tackling under 18 conceptions.
Sandra Lewis, NHS Central Lancashire public health associate, said: “Young people often miss out on health information or knowing where to access services because they are too afraid to ask.
“This card is ideal as it is discreet and is packed with useful numbers and websites and can easily fit in your wallet or purse.”
iHaveInformation also provides advice about the support available to young parents including the NHS Baby Life Check, which helps to ensure a baby’s health and safety. It also has details about where young people can find support about getting back into education, employment or training.
The cards are available at GP surgeries and youth organisations across central Lancashire; more will be distributed over the next few months. They will also be available in libraries so that they are accessible for all residents of central Lancashire.
