Christine Helm and Tracey Curran, who work for the Nursing and Quality Department at Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, bravely took to the skies, enjoyed the views and then threw themselves out of a plane, all to raise funds for Cancer Services at the hospital.
The plucky pair bravely trained and did the jump on Saturday July 24th. Their team of supporters waited for the clouds to clear and for perfect conditions to see their loved ones undertake this challenge of a lifetime.
Christine and Tracey then flew into the sky, strapped themselves to the instructors and threw themselves out of the plane. Spectators watched as Christine tried several times to open her parachute, only to see that is wasn’t going to open. After a dramatic few seconds the emergency chute was deployed. Christine wasn’t phased by this in fact she welcomed the opportunity to free fall for longer, enjoy the views and feel like she was flying.
She says- Think I scared the life out of my family they have made me promise not to do it ever again (I would though). It was very exciting and would recommend anyone to do it, amazing!, adding- : “I really wanted to do something to help raise money for the cancer services at Aintree. Working at the hospital, and also having friends and family who’ve been here means this place is really important to me.
Christine and Tracy have done fantastically with their fundraising, raising over £1000 for cancer services. They each paid £70 out of their own money to register to do the jump as their contribution. You can do a skydive for free, subject to raising a minimum amount in sponsorship monies. Help is available to assist you in raising funds. All you need is a head for heights and a sense of adventure. You can raise money for any ward or department here at the hospital or encourage a friend or family member to take part as the skydive is open to all.
Well done Christine and Tracey, you are both so brave, and have done fantastically well in your fundraising. Congratulations
