Liverpool's bid for World Cup 2018 has city hotel The Crowne Plaza excited by the prospect of the visitors it would bring to the city.
Commenting on Liverpool’s success today as a potential city to host games at the 2018 World Cup, Stephen Roberts, Chair of the Liverpool Hoteliers Association and General Manager of Liverpool City Centre Crowne Plaza, said: “This is great news for the city and if England gets the nod for 2018 it would be a substantial boost to the hotel and hospitality industry across Merseyside.
“With two famous clubs in the city we already get tens of thousands of fans and rival supporters here each year to watch football or tour the stadiums.
“To have the best teams from across the globe playing in the city that we all consider the home of football would be amazing. Our rooms are always fully booked for big games and they don’t come much bigger than the World Cup.
“It would bring millions of pounds into the economy and gain great coverage from the world’s media. We have the right infrastructure, transport links, history and facilities to accommodate the many thousands of people who would come to the city.
“Obviously this is just the first step, but we will all have our fingers crossed that the English bid wins in December next year.”
