In a unique collaboration between the hotel chain. Jobcentre Plus and Liverpool City Council, 210 jobs are being created for local people to work at the soon-to-be-opened Hilton Liverpool hotel.
Finishing touches are being put to Hilton Liverpool which has been built on the edge of Liverpool One overlooking the historic Albert Dock.
The international hotel brand has openings at a range of levels, with roles available from team leader and supervisory positions to entry level front and back of house.
Anyone who is out of work is encouraged to apply for the positions through Jobcentre Plus, which is working with Liverpool City Council and Hilton Liverpool in a Local Employment Partnership.
Hilton Liverpool will be guaranteeing interviews for any jobseekers and anyone under threat of redundancy. Successful candidates will then complete a comprehensive and bespoke training package, funded by the Learning and Skills Council, and delivered by Liverpool City Council.
The training package, which is likely to last two weeks in duration, will incorporate some elements of Hilton’s own training programmes as well as some generic customer service skills and some accredited training such as first aid and manual handling. In return, Jobcentre Plus and The People Pool will promote their vacancies, and will sift, screen and match candidates to the vacancies.
Elaine Cawley, HR manager for Hilton Liverpool, explains: “We understand the importance and need to recruit locally, so that when our guests arrive at the hotel they can enjoy a warm and friendly Liverpool welcome.
"Through Jobcentre Plus we can ensure that we not only get the best candidates for the positions we have open, but that everyone applying for a job gets a fair chance in the recruitment process.

Jobcentre Plus account manager Jan Palin, said: “We’re delighted with the way the relationship with Hilton Liverpool has developed, and with the package that is on offer for jobseekers via the pre-employment training routeway. Although the majority of vacancies will go mid to late-July, we’ve already seen significant interest in the jobs on offer.”
Positions available at the Liverpool Hilton include: reception; switchboard; executive lounge assistants; sales; finance; housekeeping; kitchen staff, including all levels of chefs and kitchen porters and stewards; night staff, such as night auditor and porters; food and beverage staff, both supervisors and assistants to work in the restaurant and bars; conference and events staff, including supervisors and assistants; and, maintenance and concierge staff including doormen and porters.
Flexible contract hours and job shares, including term time and school hour projects, will also be available to all potential recruits to ensure lone parents and those returning to work are not deterred from applying for positions.
