Budget airline giants Ryanair are celebrating two decades of flying from Liverpool Airport... with a typical low cost deal offered to passengers.
The firm began operations from Liverpool with a route to Dublin in May 1988, and now operates 38 low fare routes from Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
Over 2 million passengers will take advantage of Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares to and from Liverpool this year, sustaining 2,000 local jobs and generating a tourism spend of over £100m in the Merseyside region.
Ryanair’s Bridget Dowling said: “Since 1988, over 9 million passengers in Liverpool have chosen Ryanair’s lowest fares and No.1 punctuality.
"Passengers prefer Ryanair because only Ryanair guarantees the lowest fares, guarantees no fuel surcharges ever, and delivers savings of more than £30m annually.
“To celebrate 20 years at Liverpool, Ryanair is giving away 100,000 one-way seats for £5, and we advise passengers to book immediately on www.ryanair.com as this offer must end at midnight on Thursday.”
Katie Smorthit, Head of Marketing, Peel Airports Group, added: "Ryanair were one of the pioneers of low cost travel and certainly the first to offer such flights from Liverpool.
"The Airport is unrecognisable from what is was like just 10 years ago let alone 20 years ago and there is no doubt that Ryanair's decision to make Liverpool one of their key European bases just 3 years ago has helped to further transform the airport in recent years.”
