Cains are nothing if not ambitious.

And so confident is the firm in the potential worldwide appeal of their Liverpool-brewed lager that they plan to make a concerted assualt on overseas drinkers.

Selling the lager, with a special Union Jack-themed label, abroad would make Cains the first UK brewer to introduce a British premium lager to the export market.

Cains has re-designed the label of its prize-winning lager, described by GQ magazine as "one of the coolest things in the world" and now wants it to go global.

Talks are already under way with UK Trade and Investment - a Government body dedicated to helping businesses tap into overseas markets.

Cains' Finest Export Lager is brewed to traditional export standards, creating a 5% ABV, full-bodied version which carries a revisited interpretation of the iconic 'Best of British' Union Jack label designed by Pop Art legend Sir Peter Blake.

After a successful spell as the official lager of Liverpool's Capital of Culture Year, Cains believes the flagship beer can write another chapter in a tale of a premium British lager many claimed would never succeed.

Within just two years of its launch, Cains Lager had picked up a raft of awards from CAMRA and other organisations. Legendary film director Quentin Tarantino even sampled it while in Liverpool and declared it to be "awesome".

Cains joint managing director Sudarghara Dusanj said: "Our British lager goes from strength to strength. Export is a natural step and in line with the great tradition of Liverpool as one of the world's finest shipping ports.

"We had to move the lager on to the next stage. Liverpool '08 was a great platform but now we're in 2009 and it's time to take advantage of the global attention our beers received to open up new markets.

"The challenge is to be the first British-brewed premium Export lager. All of Europe's most famous lagers have an Export version sold here but this is not a mass-produced beer, Cains Finest Export Lager is crafted by master brewers in Liverpool using the finest Maris Otter barley from Norfolk."

Cains Export Lager is now available in 500ml bottles and super chilled keg draught.
