Alma de Cuba's sixth sense

Liverpool’s restaurant and bar, Alma de Cuba, is celebrating after taking home its sixth award over the past 6 months.

The latest win for the glamorous venue, comes as one of its staff is named Bar Person of the Year at the city’s Academy Ambassador Awards.

The award was presented at a stylish ceremony in Liverpool’s Crowne Plaza Hotel, on Thursday night.

Winner Danny McNeil, said: “I’m very flattered and grateful to the team for nominating me. I love my job and recognition for doing it makes it even more worthwhile.”

The Academy Ambassador Awards recognise staff from sectors across the city that provide excellence in customer care, and create a positive impression of Liverpool.

Rob Preston, group operations director for Alma de Cuba, said: “Danny is very dedicated and passionate about his job and constantly gives 110%. He is always willing to offer his expert knowledge of wines and cocktails to all of our customers, despite how busy the bar might be.”

Thursday’s award was the latest in a series of wins for Alma de Cuba, which was also recently named UK’s Best Venue for 2008, Best Restaurant, Best Bar, Best Restaurant and Bar owner and Metro’s Readers’ award for Best Restaurant.

Rob added: “It has been a fantastic 12 months for Alma de Cuba. We have hosted some great events, including the official Grand National winners party, MTV Music Week and the after party for the world premier for Of Time and the City. These awards are a testament to our staff and our customers, who have helped make 2008 such a great success.

“2009 is already shaping up to be another exciting year for us and we are looking forward to everybody joining us for some more fabulous nights”.

Alma de Cuba is not only a popular haunt for local people, it also attracts the city’s rich and famous and boasts many footballers and TV stars as regular guests.

The Ambassador Academy awards are run by Liverpool's Academy of Excellence in Customer Care - in association with 08 Welcome - which has been set up to develop excellent standards of customer care throughout the city.
