Liverpool is set to become home to the worlds largest container line Maersk, as it closes it's headquarters in London.
The global shipping giants are relocating to the city in a bid to keep operation costs down to a minimum.
The company which already employs 110 staff situated at the Plaza offices in Old Hall Street will be creating around 70 jobs when the move is complete.
Maersk Group employs close to 120,000 people world wide and branches out into many different areas such as shipping, energy and retail.
Operating key container services from more than 130 ports the container giants also run passenger and freight links through their Norfolkline services which are based at Birkenhead's Twelve Quays.
Maersk Line UK & Ireland managing director Doug Bannister said: "To move to Liverpool is an exciting time for our business as well as the local community.
"The city has a long maritime history and it we are looking forward to establishing our new head office is such a great place."
Liverpool council leader Warren Bradley said: "Maersk have shown the city a tremendous vote of confidence and it is fantastic news.
"Liverpool has an unrivalled maritime heritage so I could think of no better place to relocate their headquarters."
