Hilton Hotels - a major Liverpool presence

Hilton Hotels will become a major brand in Liverpool with a total of three new hotels in the region, confirming its status as one of the premier tourism destinations in the North of England.

In a deal with Peel Holdings, operators of Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Hilton are to brand a new hotel that is taking shape alongside the terminal building as a Hampton by Hilton Hotel.

Connected by a walkway to the airport the hotel will have 160 rooms and is expected to open for business this summer and will complement another Hampton by Hilton scheduled to be built at Liverpool's Kings Dock.

The move comes as the finishing touches are being put to £1.6billion Hilton Liverpool which is due to open this spring in the Liverpool One complex. The trio of Hiltons will be completed with another Hampton by Hilton planned to open at The Kings Dock in 2010.

Phil Cordell, Senior Vice President of Brand Management for Hampton and Global Head, Hilton Focus Service Brands said: "Hampton by Hilton is an exceptional product which is set to transform the UK's economy hotel sector and fill a gap at its upper end. The international expansion of the brand continues at a pace and we are delighted to be building our presence in a destination like Liverpool."

Meanwhile the international hotel group Millennium & Copthorne Hotels has confirmed that it plans to open two new hotels in the Liverpool Central Village development, alongside Central Station They will add a further 400 new hotel rooms to the city.

The Copthorne Hotel Liverpool will overlook Newington Square and The Boardwalk public space. A four-star Millennium Hotel Liverpool be housed in the Grade II listed Watson Building, on Renshaw Street. Planning permission was granted last year for both schemes and work is due to begin this year with both hotels due to open in 2011.
