New appointment for Community Foundation

by Paul Horridge. Published Thu 24 May 2012 10:25

Part of a new national initiative, which is just being launched in the Merseyside region, Localgiving.com is simply about encouraging more people to give to small charities and community organisations which are based in the local area where they live or work.

The initiative provides a website where people can find out about some of the smaller charities in their area, and the different ways they can support them. It also supports these charities by offering a simple online forum to promote their work and receive donations, which will be boosted by a match funding pot.

With a number of years of experience in fundraising already behind her, Sophie’s new role at the Community Foundation for Merseyside will see her spearheading a campaign to raise £25,000 in match funding for groups on Merseyside.

She will also be involved in the recruitment of local community organisations into the scheme, and in practically supporting them to develop their fundraising skills both through the website and via a series of community based workshops, which will be taking place over the coming months.

Sophie says, “I’m really excited about this new role, because it’s all about getting out into the local community to encourage philanthropy. LocalGiving really is a fantastic resource which enables people from all walks of life to give something back to their local area.

“What excites me is that it isn’t just a fundraising website. The project will also give smaller local charities and community groups that don’t have many resources the opportunity to develop their fundraising skills so that they can ‘do it for themselves’ in the future rather than just having to rely on grants. I think this kind of approach will make a really big difference.”
