A Merseyside business has won a top regional award.

E-Tech Components, which makes cable accessories, was awarded UK Trade & Investment's (UKTI's) Passport to Export Award to mark overseas success.

The company now sells its products to countries including the US and Singapore and has a turnover of £1.2 million.

Chris Montgomery, Managing Director, said: "Three years ago I could not have imagined a situation where exports made up 50% of our turnover.

"Now I can see our international business growing even more, and am extremely glad we made the decision to look overseas."

E-Tech Components got business advice from the UKTI's Passport to Export initiative in order to help it branch out abroad.

The firm supplies materials for a new Metro Rail system in Dubai and hopes to be involved in similar projects in the future.

UKTI's International Trade Director for the north-west, Clive Drinkwater, said: "The company is reaping the rewards and finding that, as its profile rises, yet more deals are being generated.

"Trading in international markets is key to business success and research shows that exporters have higher levels of productivity, employment and investment."
