A top hotel's scheme to create a VIP Entrance could be scuppered because town hall planners say it could be used to "exploit" guests.

Liverpool City Council planning officials aim to refuse the application by Hope Street Hotel on the grounds that the term VIP is "indistinct" and "open to exploitation".

The hotel wants the entrance to be created in Hope Place and believes that it will meet the needs of its customers.

Residents who live on Hope Place have said that they would not like an exclusive entrance to be built as they are concerned that their quiet street may be teeming with limousines and paparazzi if one were to be constructed.

A report is going to go before councillors next week which will reccomend that the hotel may use a side entrance for disabled access, emergencies and purposes in accordance with the prior agreement of the hotel manager.
