A popular local glossy magazine has been forced to change its name after a battle with British Airways.
"Highlife" magazine delivers 20,000 copies to homes in the Southport and Ormskirk areas.
But lawyers for British Airways have forced its publishers to drop the name because of a class with the BA in-flight magazine "High life"
Now the local magazine, owned by independent publishers Champion Media Group, is to use the name GR8 Life.
Editor of GR8 Life , Rebecca Keegan, said: "We were shocked in October to receive a letter from a trade mark solicitors on behalf of multi-billion pound corporation British Airways Plc.
“The letter strongly requested that we drop all use of the title Highlife in favour of another, quite different, name.
"Although Highlife is the title of BA's in-flight magazine, we were astonished that the airline would be concerned by our publication as it operates in a wholly different environment.
“And as a small, local publisher we found it hard to believe that such a massive corporation could feel threatened by us.
“After months of correspondence and due to mounting pressure we decided to tell our readers the situation, and give them the opportunity to pick a new name.
“We received more than 150 suggestions and felt Gr8 Life magazine was the best. We write about all that is great in our area, so why not put it on the cover?
“We also received lots of messages of support and our readers seemed as shocked as we were about the situation.”
Gr8 Life Magazine is a glossy lifestyle publication and covers subjects including homes, gardens, society, celebrities, fashion, antiques, and motors.
