The Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson is backing a new initiative to develop super- growth businesses in the city.
The accelerator programme called projectEV:liverpool is believed to be the first of its kind outside the USA and builds on the success of this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) where 3,000 delegates from around the world came to the city.
The project is private sector led with £2m being put into the scheme by local organisations. A funding bid is also being prepared for £1m from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Cllr Nick Small, cabinet member for employment, enterprise and skills is leading on projectEV:liverpool for the city and said:
“This is exactly the sort of initiative which builds the legacy following the Global Entrepreneurship Congress earlier this year. The GEC, Liverpool Embassy in London and our presence at the World Expo in Shanghai prove that Liverpool is a place where people, in the UK and across the world, want to do business.
“This will be another Liverpool first which will help grow the businesses of the future.”
On the private sector side the bid is being led by the Rejuvenate Your Business consultancy, which is signing up partners from the legal, accountancy and communication sectors to help drive forward the vision.
Entrepreneur Shazan Qureshi, Co-Founder at Rejuvenate Your Business, who is leading this project said:
“We are urging businesses to get involved in this exciting project and to help shape the new economic landscape of Liverpool. Companies with the ability to become super-growth and achieve ambitious targets will be considered for this groundbreaking scheme.
“A number of suitable premises for the project are being looked at and we’re confident of securing not only the most appropriate location but also an iconic one.
“We’re grateful to the Mayor, city council, Liverpool Vision and other partners who recognise the potential of projectEV.”
