Popular Liverpool hair salon chain Voodou will launch a campaign next week to inspire and inform school children about the benefits and success of a career in hairdressing.

The salon, which opened 35 years ago, want to show young people the benefits of working within the hairdressing industry.

The move is a result of an OFSTED inspection which revealed that a lot of young people felt insulted by school teachers because they wanted to experience working within the hairdressing industry, rather than staying on at school.

Managing director of Voodou Rob Webb said: “Going into the schools will be a way for us to put straight any uncertainties about the industry.

"Hairdressing is a creative, well paid profession that employs thousands of people all over the country."

There are 6 Voodou salons across the city and Rob is very proud of his career as a hairdresser. He said, “As a member of the hairdressing industry I feel Voodou and other hairdressing businesses work hard to be as prestigious and recognized as any other industry out there.”

The salon chain's school tour will start next week, coinciding with the launch of their new Voodou Junior service, which is open for people age 15 and under.

The new group of junior stylists will give talks in local schools about their career paths and why they have chosen to work in the industry.

Rob added: "Working in hairdressing doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be cutting hair.

“The hairdressing industry is so varied. At Voodou your daily jobs can range from taking part in a Zombie Walk down Bold Street on Halloween, to styling the hair for a last minute photo shoot, to even helping produce a fifteen stone dress made out of hair.

“One thing’s for sure - hairdressing really is a career to be proud of!”
