Liverpool celebrates 100 years of the charter of the Insurance Institute

Members of the Insurance Institute of Liverpool recently came together to celebrate the centenary of the Charter of the Insurance Institute (CII). Industry professionals and special guests attended a black tie dinner at Liverpool city centre’s Holiday Inn, to honour this milestone and raise money for charity.

Two charities were selected as beneficiaries of the evening’s fund raising. The first was Liverpool based Nugent Care, which has played an integral part of the local community, since it began in the 1800s. The charity offers a diverse range of support to children and adults across Liverpool and the North West, working at the heart of some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities. The second charity chosen to receive funds from the CII Centenary Ball was the UK Insurance Industry’s benevolent fund, The Insurance Charities. This organisation works with employees past and present to offer support in times of hardship. On the night, over £4,000 was raised, which will be split evenly between these two well deserving charitable organisations.

Oval Insurance Broking’s Dominic Murphy, President of the Insurance Institute of Liverpool said:

“It was a real pleasure to celebrate this landmark occasion with so many friends and colleagues. The CII and the Insurance Institute of Liverpool play a pivotal role in the professional lives of those working in the local industry, and it is encouraging to see both professional bodies receive such dedicated support. I’d like to thank all of our members and partners for making the centenary celebration such an enjoyable evening; and for digging deep to raise money for two fantastic charities.”

The Insurance Institute of Liverpool is more than just a professional membership organisation; all of those who are engaged with it share a collective vision of promoting professional and ethical standards within the industry. The Insurance Institute of Liverpool was established in 1907, during a time when the city was seen as the epicentre of the UK industry. Today, the organisation represents over 1,400 people from across the Liverpool City Region who work in the insurance industry.

Kevin Byrne, Fundraising Officer of Nugent Care said:

“Nugent Care has been working and campaigning to address poverty and social welfare issues in Liverpool for over 130 years. We have many successes, but during such turbulent times, there is still plenty of work to be done. We can only do this through the generosity of people and organisations, such as the Insurance Institute of Liverpool. I cannot thank them enough for choosing us as one of their charity partners for the CII Centenary Ball, and I am really looking forward to developing great relationships with them in the future.”

Annali-Joy Thornicroft, CEO of The Insurance Charities said:

“Particularly in times of financial constraint it is heartening to see people thinking of those in need. The Insurance Charities is so grateful to all who have helped raise such a magnificent sum. It will be used to support those for whom life seems very bleak at present.”
