An “Alternative Ascot” ladies day held at Aintree Racecourse has raised more than £30,000 for charity Alder Hey.
The Alternative Ascot event is in its 13th anniversary year and celebrates the sights and sounds of the renowned Berkshire course.
More than 450 ladies attended the event which has become so popular that it is now held in one of Aintree’s largest function rooms, to accommodate the growing list of those wishing to join the fun.
Racing was beamed live from Ascot to the home of the Grand National and punters competed for race prizes in order to raise funds for Alder Hey Imagine Appeal.
Crystal Clear and Tangle Teezer were amongst the individual race sponsors. In addition, Wongs the jewellers donated a matching solid silver bangle and a double link pendant from their Ti Sento collection.
Chris Done, Head of Fundraising for Imagine said: “This is such a popular event that we don’t need to advertise for ticket sales as people come back year after year. Our ladies made a huge effort with outfits and looked amazing. Everyone had a great time and raised much needed funds for Alder Hey – winners all round!”
Debbie Slee, Conference and Events Manager at Aintree Racecourse said: “The Alternative Ascot event has been a huge success again this year. We host lots of business events and conferences at Aintree, small and large, but the Alternative Ascot event is something a little bit different which not only offers a great day out but raises a huge amount of money for Alder Hey and the good work they do.”
Stylish Carol Williams won “Best Dressed” with runner up Mrs Jackie Fowler sporting a gathered navy fascinator.
The event has raised around £170,000 for Alder Hey since it began.
