Dr Nick Owen MBE, the director of Wallasey-based social enterprise the Aspire Trust, has been awarded an honorary Fellowship in Education by the University of Hull.

Dr Owen and the Aspire Trust have long-standing links with the University of Hull. The university has been closely involved with the Trust’s programme of international education conferences and continuing professional development.

This programme has so far brought more than one hundred senior teachers and school managers from India, Nigeria and the Middle East to the UK to gain hands on experience of the British education system.

The second conference in this series was hosted by the University of Hull in June 2012. The Trust and the university are currently planning a visit to China to promote the programme the next conference.

Dr Owen has also taught on the university’s Master of Education course and has produced a paper in collaboration with Dr Ioanna Palaiologou, also of the University of Hull, which formed a chapter of Planning for Creative Development in the Early Years Foundation Stage: Theory and Practice, published by SAGE, London in 2009.

Confirming Dr Owen’s appointment Professor Calie Pistorius, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hull, said: “I should like to extend my warmest congratulations on your appointment. Your involvement with, and contribution to, the University of Hull is very highly appreciated.”
