Horsepower at Aintree makes dream rides a reality for charity kids

The Sporting Bears Motor Club gave 200 local children the opportunity to be driven around Aintree’s Motor Racing Circuit in over 40 different luxury and exotic cars earlier this month.

Each of the children who took part were put forwards for the day by the local children’s charities and hospices who support them – including Claire House, Derian House, Hope House, Ty Gobaith, CHICS, YOU/TCT from Christies and Wingate Centre.

The children, their families and their carers travelled from Liverpool and as far afield as Wirral, Preston, Conwy and Manchester to experience travelling at up to 100mph in luxury sports cars such as Ferraris, Bentleys, Maseratis and even a couple of police cars.

Volunteer helpers and drivers from the Sporting Bears were joined by Liverpool Motor Club marshals, who all gave up their free time to make these dream rides happen.

As well as getting the drive of their lives, the fun day also featured face painting and games with Everton in the Community and raffles with signed prizes from Liverpool FC, Everton FC, Manchester City FC, Wigan AFC and St Helens rugby league clubs.

The main event sponsors were CES UK Limited and Bentley Motors UK, who also donated two cars to use on the day worth £500,000 - one of which, the £263,000 Bentley Mulsanne, Jeremy Clarkson wasn’t even allowed to drive on Top Gear.

Porsche Chester and Corkills Alfa Romeo also donated three cars to be used on the day, helping to make the event a once in a lifetime memory for all of the children, and a fantastic respite day for their families and carers.

Debbie Slee, Conference & Events Manager at Aintree Racecourse says: “This was a fantastic event to be able to host at Aintree Racecourse, supporting children and their families who have been through, or are still going through, some difficult situations.

“Our £35m development of Aintree Racecourse, which includes its extensive conference and events facilities, flexibly supports all kinds of different corporate events, exhibitions and conferences – but local charity event are always a particular joy for us to be part of.”

Max Walker, from the Sporting Bears Motor Club adds: “We had a really fantastic day, which brought families together in a controlled and secure environment where they could really enjoy the cars, be together and have some fun - and where better to host such an epic racing event than at Aintree Racecourse?”

Although best known for its horseracing and as home of the Grand National, Aintree also hosted the British Grand Prix for 5 years between 1955 and 1962 and drivers such as Ayrton Senna and Sir Stirling Moss have driven on the famous track.

Although the last race on the Aintree circuit was in 1964, the three mile track has been modified into a 1.5 mile club circuit which makes it ideal for sports days such as this, hosted by the Sporting Bears.
