Expert baker and judge of The Great British Bake Off Paul Hollywood has been unveiled as the presenter of tonight’s prestigious Liverpool Food and Drink Awards.

Originally from Wallasey, Paul, who has built a reputation as one of the best known Artisan bakers in the UK, will help to announce the ceremony’s 11 winners, including Liverpool’s Favourite Producer, Favourite Independent Cafe/Coffee Shop, Liverpool’s Favourite Restaurant and Liverpool’s Favourite Bar or Pub.

Two hundred and eighty people including more than 70 bars, restaurants and producers from around the city will descend on The Camp and Furnace at 7pm, following weeks of voting by members of the public. More than 3,000 votes have been cast in just under eight weeks for the awards, which are the culmination of the ever popular Liverpool Food and Drink Festival.

Paul, who has worked at The Dorchester Hotel, the Chester Grosvenor Hotel and the Cliveden Hotel in Berkshire, said: “I’m delighted to have been asked to present this year’s Liverpool Food and Drink Awards as the city seems to have evolved into an extraordinary culinary hotspot over recent years. The talent within the industry is outstanding and it will be extremely interesting to see who has been voted the public’s favourite.”

As well as support from the Liverpool Daily Post, the event, now in its third year, has secured sponsorship from an array of local businesses including Brown Turner Ross Solicitors, Rhubarb & Custard Catering, Beers Cellars and De Vere Academy of Hospitality.

Denise Harris, MD of SK Events, who founded both the Liverpool Food and Drink Festival and tonight’s awards, said: “As event organisers, it’s fantastic to be able to announce that we have someone as renowned as Paul as our presenter.

"We’re thrilled that he’s coming back to his home territory and by having someone of his calibre hosting the night; it reinforces the message that these awards are becoming one of the most anticipated events in Liverpool’s culinary calendar.

“Paul is extremely well respected both in the city and around the country and he has carved a successful career around his dedication and passion for good food.

"To be able to finish our festival week with these awards, in the company of over 70 bars, restaurants, producers and Paul presenting, really is the icing on the cake.”
