
The Light Cinema in New Brighton has appointed leisure and hospitality specialist Phil Dove as general manager.
Phil, who has a wealth of experience in the industry, has previously worked as operations manager at award winning Liverpool venue the London Carriageworks and Hope Street Hotel.
He has also worked at The Royal Court Theatre and the landmark Hilton Hotel in Manchester.
John Sullivan, director at The Light Cinemas, said: “We are delighted to welcome Phil on board.
“He has a vast wealth of experience in the leisure and hospitality industry and will bring an extra dimension to our team.”
Phil will be working over the coming months to recruit and train staff and prepare the eight screen digital cinema for opening this autumn.
He said: “This is a massive project and I am delighted to be on board.
“The Light Cinema will be a stunning film venue on completion and I am working hard with the senior management team to make sure that everything is in place to make this the premiere location to see movies in the North West.
“I have worked with major hospitality brands across the North West and have a great feel for the industry and what works. We are aiming to bring something new and fresh to New Brighton, which will bring more people to the region and help the local economy.
“We also want to be a key part of the community and involve residents and other businesses in what we are doing. The Light will create a cinema experience that people can be proud of and it is our belief that people will want to spend their social time here.
“There will be a wide range of on screen content and we are listening to the views of the community to see what they want here. The Light will show a films, as well as music, theatre and live sports events. This will be imaginative programming with the sky as the limit.”
The Light is a £5.5million investment which is part of Neptune’s New Brighton development.
The cinema will create 25 new jobs and Phil said he has been thrilled with the response from people looking to work for The Light.
“We have been inundated with CVs and the calibre of potential staff is excellent,” he said.
“We want to create a dedicated team which is passionate about cinema and we see every employee as a potential manager. It is vital for us to invest in the training and development of our staff as this will come across to our patrons.
“Our visitor experience will be first class and I cannot wait for the doors to open.”
