The German E-Coli outbreak which has claimed 26 lives across Europe has sparked a flood of calls for help and advice to Cheshire-based disinfectant specialists Safe Solutions.
Alan Dudley, a director of the company which manufacturers the hugely popular Safe4 disinfectant range which sells across Europe and elsewhere in the world, said the company website was inundated with worried visitors.
As the spread of the outbreak in Germany and beyond reached the national media and radio and television bulletins, the numbers of web inquiries from concerned individuals soared.
Speaking from his office at the Safe Solutions HQ at Winsford, Mr Dudley said: "We also received a number of telephone calls from people wishing to protect themselves from the risk of picking up this particularly dangerous strain of E-Coli.
“I suppose it is quite natural for concerned members of the public to seek out help and advice from anyone or any organisation who might be able to offer some help.
“Our brand is particularly well known because our disinfectant is the number one choice for animal welfare businesses from kennels to catteries as well as in dentistry and healthcare organisations. We have a reputation for effectiveness that spans twenty years so I suppose it is not surprising that people are contacting us.
“However, in reality all we can do is underline the current general advice about ensuring personal hygiene and urge people to follow advice from health organisations. Thankfully, we in Britain seem to have been fortunate in that we have escaped the brunt of this outbreak.
“Although we mainly supply products to businesses and organisations, individuals can make purchases from our website and we have seen increased demand for products such as our bactericidal hand scrub, our hand sanitisers and disinfectant wipes.
