A Liverpool businessman set off on a 106-mile walk on Thursday to raise awareness and funding for charity.
Following weeks of training, 49-year-old Terry Maguire set off to walk from his hometown of Newton-Le-Willows to Dinas-Dinlle, North Wales, to raise the awareness of the Business for Youth charity.
Terry’s route has led him to Connah’s Quay on the first day – a total of 35 miles. He will continue to Colwyn Bay and then on day three he will complete the final 36 miles to Dina Dinlle.
Business for Youth (BFY) was set up by Maguire and is based around the idea that local businesses should support local young people, particularly those from a poorer background, to encourage development within a working environment.
As a local businessman and grandfather himself, Terry is passionate about the BFY cause. Together with the overwhelming response received from many other local businesses, Terry is hopeful the positive response continues and the young people in the area respond to his campaign and get involved.
Terry said: “I’m feeling a very strong sense of achievement so far, day one was a success having completed the target I planned. Although I am very tired and my feet are beginning to hurt, I will re-charge my batteries tonight and I look forward to getting stuck back in tomorrow morning!
“I have always wanted to give something back to my community. With the rise of youth unemployment, I believe it is ever more important for local businesses to help out the local young people and give them a purpose in life, and this is where Business for Youth comes in.”
Terry is also running a competition to Guess the Steps in partnership with locally based drinks company, Vimto. Terry will keep count of how many steps he’s taken in each leg of the walk.
