The new Range Rover Evoque model took centre stage at the launch of a new campaign by The Mersey Partnership (TMP) that aims to raise awareness of the Liverpool city region’s 'knowledge economy'.

The new Jaguar Land Rover formed the backdrop to a dinner at Liverpool Cathedral arranged by TMP to launch the campaign. Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, was guest of honour and speaker at the event.

The firm's Halewood plant will be the only location in the world that will assemble the Evoque model. The decision to invest money into building the car in Liverpool represents a multi-billion pound commitment to the area by Jaguar Land Rover and its parent company Tata Motors.

1,500 extra staff have been employed by the factory to help in the building of the car, in advance of its global media launch in Liverpool this summer where the Evoque will go on sale in more than 150 countries.

TMP Chief Executive Lorraine Rogers said:: "Jaguar Land Rover uses some of the most sophisticated and advanced manufacturing techniques in the motor industry at its award-winning Halewood plant.

“The launch of the Evoque will be an opportunity to remind a global audience of our strengths. The car, along with the Freelander 2 model, is the essence of advanced manufacturing.

"Great cars, made in Liverpool City Region, on sale all over the world: there can be no more fitting backdrop for the launch of TMP’s awareness campaign.”

The "Made in Liverpool City Region" initiative looks at the use of new, developing technologies, along with how to make the most of knowledge in areas such as life sciences and financial services.

The campaign will involve a series of events in Liverpool and London that aim to raise the profile and celebrate the success of knowledge-heavy businesses such as TMP.

TMP is encouraging local companies to help promote the campaign and to gather the best examples of creativity across the city region. It is also working with members to explore the possibility of involving local schools in the awareness campaign.
