A director, who played a key role in financially stabilising one of the UK’s largest charities, has been honoured at a prestigious awards ceremony.
Ingrid Smillie was rewarded by her peers at the North West Finance Director of the Year Awards, held in Manchester’s Lowry Hotel on the 10th February.
She took home the Not-for-Profit accolade for her hard work at the Widnes-based CIC Group, who offers care and support to around 4,000 people across the UK.
They successfully merged with Manchester Care in 2008, thanks largely to her efforts.
She said: “It was an honour to collect the Not-For-Profit Finance Director Award.
“Whilst I am delighted to have been acknowledged, I share it with CIC’s Finance Team, who are committed to providing a quality service. And also our Executive Board, whose insight and dedication helps ensure the on-going success of CIC.”
During Mrs Smillie’s five years at the charitable organisation, she has overseen a growth resulting in turnover of around £95m.
CIC Group chief executive, Phil Edgington, paid tribute to the work she has done.
He said: “Her leadership has helped ensure that CIC is in a healthy financial position and can invest in providing better, more innovative services for people with care needs.
“Ingrid has exceptional financial skills but, much more than that, she is a great negotiator, an inspiration to her team members and a major contributor to the strategic direction of the Group.
“CIC is a complex business, operating in a very competitive environment. But is also a charity that is committed to delivering real benefit for the people it serves.
“From my experience in several sectors, this makes the Finance Director role even more challenging than in the private sector and her achievements the more remarkable. She was a worthy recipient of the award.”
