A Liverpool entrepreneur has turned her hobby into a career, creating handmade miniatures as novel gifts.
Julie Anderson, 41, has launched her new company 'Jool Anderson', which makes everything imaginable in miniature from badges and fridge magnets to sculptures of people and their pets.
Julie, from Woolton, said: “So far our most popular range is our VW miniatures, badges and fridge magnets which have proved to be a real success with VW enthusiasts up and down the country, but we will literally try and make everything in miniature.
"I have had lots of different projects from making miniature sculptures of people’s pets, to sculptures of the bride and groom as a novel gift for their wedding day.”
Julie, originally a manager of a supported housing scheme, was forced to give up her job through ill health two years ago.
She added: “When I was diagnosed with Labrinthitis I had to give up a career that I really loved.
"I had to think laterally about what I could do now and knowing that I’ve always loved sculpting miniatures, I came up with the idea of turning my past time into a successful business.”
After taking the decision to start the business, Julie approached business support organisation Waves Enterprise for advice and assistance.
Waves supports new and existing businesses in the city centre and South Liverpool, providing tailored individual support and access to the skills, knowledge and experience of a network of local panel members - including some of the city’s biggest names in business, who offer to help entrepreneurs and newly formed companies to start-up and to grow.
Business Facilitator for Waves Enterprise, Debbie Elliot-Brown, said: “I am delighted with the progress made by Julie. The business is such a novel idea, but it is already proving popular with people who are looking for a unique and personal gift.
"It has been a pleasure to support Julie. The Waves Business Resource panel have done a great job helping to build her confidence and providing the right knowledge and contacts to enable Julie to establish very quickly.”
