Arriving at The SkinGenesis Chester clinic was a real thrill, although I admit it would have been somewhat of a challenge without the help of my trusty SatNav.
Located in the prestigious Mollington Grange, close to the village of Mollington, it is on a private plot of land surrounded by various other private businesses.
The red brick building with a white front door surrounded by luscious foliage, gives the impression you are being welcomed into someone’s home rather than a beauty clinic. With the most practical choice of travel being by car, the free parking available is certainly a plus point worth mentioning.
A warm reception area filled with natural light provides a cosy feel, with leather chairs to relax in while you fill in a few simple forms. These questions are designed to help your specialist decide what treatments will best suit your needs, explain what you can expect from your chosen treatment, and to cover any possible pesky insurance issues.
Met with a friendly smile and offer of a cup of tea, my beautician Lisa was an absolute charm.
Genuinely helpful and adept at putting clients at their ease, she also very clearly knew her stuff.
Beginning with a photographic test of UV effects on my skin, Lisa gave an honest opinion on an array of options suitable for my skin during our 15 minute consultation.
With a sigh of relief, I was told my skin damage is ‘average’ with no immediate signs that the ageing process will be too horrendous. However, I was shocked to be warned that, even in winter, everyone should be using SPF 50 daily to avoid damage the sun’s powerful rays can cause.
Although the clinic offers various chemical peels, I chose to try out their expert Microdermabrasion treatment, using a machine far more advanced than you will find in most beauty spas.
Assured by Lisa it was pain free, I’m pleased to say it is actually quite a pleasant sensation (which can be most likened to a cat licking your face). Tiny crystals are blasted onto the skin while a tube is applied bit by bit to small areas. Thus removing the top layer of skin cells and leaving your skin feeling as soft as a baby’s behind.
Long term use of Microderm can successfully treat sun-damaged skin, lessen and even totally remove scars or dark spots anywhere on the body.
Giving my skin time to breathe, Lisa talked me through various recommended moisturisers with high SPF, before applying a refreshing 5 minute face mask and ensuring my face was ready to be given a full demonstration of new make up range YOUNGBLOOD from Mineral Cosmetics recently in stock at Skingenesis.
Celebrities such as Girls Aloud beauty Cheryl Cole and Strictly Come Dancing’s Ola Jordan are huge fans of the brand which is sweeping across America, it acts as both a skin treatment and effective make up coverage, suitable for all skin types.
Unlike conventional make up brands, this clinically tested cosmetics range works to nourish and protect the skin whilst providing beautiful, natural coverage that will stay on for hours. I was delighted with the results, although purchasing the full range would definitely leave a dent in your pocket.
Priced at £65 for the Microderm alone, beauty does not come cheap. But Skingenesis is not run-of-the-mill beauty salon. Its clients are offered professional advice and expert treatment for various skin complaints, including scar tissue and serious acne.
Take a look at the photos of our case study - Naomi Heap - these incredible before and after shots show the former Miss Chester's amazing Skingenesis journey.
Suffering such bad acne, Naomi was told in no uncertain terms that she would not be allowed to enter Top Model UK, and came to Skingenesis for help.
Naomi was put onto the Dermaquest Acne Treatment Programme, which included a series of microdermabrasion sessions, gentle skin peels and IPL treatments
Naomi said: “In such a competitive industry, it’s important that you have clear skin as this is the bare minimum that is expected of you.
“When I had an acne flare-up just before the audition, I really lost my confidence and thought my dreams were shattered.
“Thankfully, with the support from my Mum, I managed to find the courage to go to the audition and luckily they must have realised my potential, as they put me through on the condition that I sorted out my skin.”
Last week, out of 30 finalists in Top Model UK competition, she won a year’s modelling contract with Impact Model Management London, after coming 2nd runner up in the final. Aged just 19, stunning Naomi is sure to have a long career ahead.
Acne Treatment, Hair Removal, Thread Vein Removal, Fat Reduction, Cellulite Treatment, Chemical Peels and Skin Rejuvenation are just some of the treatments available at SkinGenesis using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL), Microdermabrasion (Mda), Mesotherapy, Ultrasound Skin Toning and the latest range of medical and resurfacing peels and de-pigmentation technologies which are safe.
SkinGenesis is a non-surgical cosmetic clinic established in 2003 with branches in city centre locations in Leeds, Manchester and Chester.
