The Liverpool ONE shopping centre has been named "Property Development of the Year" at a prestigious building industry awards ceremony.

The £1 Billion development which has changed the face of Liverpool's city centre beat Manchester's "Media City" project to claim the award.

Built by the Grosvenor Development Group, which is owned by one of Britain's wealthiest men, the Duke of Westminster, the Liverpool ONE centre was praised for it's high quality appearance, functionality, and for being built to plan and on schedule.

Chris Bliss, director of estates at the shopping centre said: "You don’t ever expect to win these things so it was a very pleasant surprise to pick the award up.

"The judges said it was a large scale scheme, of a high quality and was also delivered on time."

As Mr Bliss collected the award at the Manchester Central conference venue, he was keen to highlight Liverpool ONE as a recession-beating example to other cities.

He said: "We have got a few more deals coming through the pipeline. But we are very close to being full.

"That is a fantastic achievement considering the current economic climate. But we can’t sit on our laurels and assume it will be this comfortable for ever.

"We’re always looking at ways we can improve services for shoppers, and for our tenants."
