A hotel has issued warnings to guests to thoroughly inspect under their pillows on February 14th, as one room will be a hiding a serious “hazard” – a diamond necklace.
The Vincent Hotel, in Southport, wanted to spread the love by surprising one of its guests with the diamond gift, secretly concealed under a pillow in one of its stylish studios.
But, following concerns about health and safety issues, staff had to spoil the surprise and contact all booked guests to caution them about the “dangerous” diamond pendant.
The hotel teamed up with fine jewellers David M. Robinson, who donated the diamond necklace from its new Valentine’s range ‘You’re the One’.
Event manager Anna Matthews said: “Hiding a diamond necklace under a guest’s pillow was originally just meant to be a bit of fun to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
“But then I began to worry that someone might accidentally injure themselves if they came across it without warning.
"Quite rightly there is a lot of legislation for hotel owners surrounding health and safety and you really can’t be too careful.
“Even though we’ve now blown the secret, I’m sure the lucky couple will be just as amazed that their Valentine’s night with us is going to be topped off with a very special gift”.
Jo Cameron, event manager from David M Robinson, said: “We are delighted to help out our friends at the Vincent, and I think there will be one very lucky couple who will remember this Valentine’s Day for a long time”.
