Photographer Eddie Harper is bucking the recession after branching-out with a venture that really is on the up-and-up.

Aeropix provides a revolutionary photographic service using a pioneering, mast-mounted camera system.

It means Aeropix, based in Crosby, near Liverpool, can provide the kind of images that are normally only available with costly helicopter or aircraft aerial photography.

Many companies are battling for survival in the recession but the success of Aeropix is proving that an economic downturn is the right time to launch a business that offers huge cost-savings in comparison to traditional competitors.

In an image-filled world former building contractor Eddie became aware of a growing demand for top-quality high-level photography and that was the spark of inspiration that led to the creation of Aeropix.

Eddie says: “Photography had been a passion of mine for twenty years so when I came up with an idea that meant I could turn it to use in business I didn't hesitate.”

The centrepiece of the Aeropix operation is a specially-modified Nissan vehicle which features an all-weather camera mounted on a mast that extends to a height 26 metres (almost 100ft).

The high-definition Canon camera, fitted with a range of lenses, is operated via computers in the rear of the vehicle. The command module features a suite of bespoke software tbat provide complete control over the range of vision and image capture and storage.

Eddie said “Many people may think that this is not the easiest time start a new business. But what we are doing is providing a service that is vastly more economical when compared to traditional aerial photography.

"On top of that the person who has commissioned the pictures can influence the photo-shoot to ensure that they are getting the exact images that they require. That's something that is just not available with aerial photography.

"Our mast is high enough for 99 per cent of situations but we shoot from a relatively low altitude, compared to helicopters, which gives a much better impact and great detail on the images.

"The potential for this service is huge and we are discovering new applications all the time. We are also tapping a demand from customers who always wanted aerial photography but thought that it was beyond their budget.

”We accept commissions from all over country and I'm sure that we will expand despite the general downturn.

"In part this is because, when budgets are squeezed, business look to get a top-class service with reduced costs and that's exactly what we provide."

Aeropix has photographed many properties for estate agents, owner-occupiers and business owners. Among its clients are civil engineers, roofing companies commercial developers, schools, event-organisers and publishers.

Click Liverpool readers can take advantage of a special offer from Aeropix with a photo-session priced at £125 to include a free 12 x 16 quality framed photograph of a property or business location.
