
John Moores University celebrated their graduates and the city's entrepreneurial success at the fifth annual LJMU Start-Up Awards.
The forward thinking University also hosted a gold ribbon opening of its Centre for Entrepreneurship to offer business advice and mentoring, which has been in development for nine years.
The four winners honoured last night were Andy Johnson, Editor of creative agency and news website Purple Revolver who was named Role Model of the Year.
Rising Star of the Year was Shubin Wang who set herself up as a registered childminder to allow herself and fellow students to attend their courses.
Entrepreneurial Alumnus of the Year were sisters Kayleigh and Talia Baccino of Trendy Vend, a vending machine business that provides cosmetics and beauty products for clubbers.
New Venture of the Year went to MC Architecture, established by Mike Crewdson, which provides architectural design services to domestic and commercial clients.
Emma Hunter, head of the Centre for Entrepreneurship, said: "The new Centre provides positive proof of how important LJMU views its role in developing and nurturing start-up businesses."
