A shopping centre in Liverpool has launched a search for the next big talent in retail window design.
Liverpool’s Cavern Walks has teamed up with Hugh Baird College and will see students design the window displays of some of its most famous stores.
Those studying Visual Merchandising and Promotion Design at the college will have the chance to recreate the shop fronts of boutiques such as Kids Cavern and Weaver’s Door.
Marketing Manager for Cavern Walks Jennifer Morris said, “Television retail expert Mary Portas has really brought the power of visual merchandising into the mainstream.
“A well-dressed window brings the season’s ‘must-buy’ products alive and compels you to enter the store to view more.
“We’re looking for the next Mary during our search – someone that has the right mix of creative flair and commercial awareness.”
Mary Portas is London’s leading retail marketing consultant having dressed the award-winning windows of two of the city’s most famous stores; Harrods and Harvey Nichols.
Lecturers at the college added, “Our students will really be put through their paces, and have to thoroughly research the individual stores before coming up with innovative window designs.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students to work to a live brief and overcome the various challenges that this brings.
“It’s experience that they just won’t come across in the classroom. We can’t wait to see what is produced.”
The competition will be judged by Cavern Walks Marketing Manager Jennifer Morris, Hugh Baird lecturers Angela O’Brien and Collette Mawdsley, and professional visual merchandiser Louise Dalrymple.
The winner will be announced on 18th November and will receive £500 worth of Cavern Walks shopping vouchers.
Their design will also be installed for four weeks over the busy Christmas period within their chosen store.
