Pupils from a Merseyside school are taking advantage of flights from John Lennon Airport.
Students from Litherland High have recently embarked on a trip to Hong Kong as part of an exchange program with a school in the city.
With Dutch airline KML regularly flying from Liverpool to Amsterdam, it is now even easier for the school to plan the trip to the Far East.
From Amsterdam, a connection can be made to Hong Kong which means the journey can be started closer to home rather than having to be made from a bigger airport.
10 students and 3 staff have made the journey as part of a ten day visit to the city where they will take part in a number of activities.
This will include experiencing traditional Chinese home-life and schooling as well as visiting some of the city’s major attractions.
Marketing & Events Manager for Litherland High School Alison Burns said, “Until KLM started to run flights from Liverpool to Amsterdam we had to fly from Manchester or London.
“This was a lot less convenient than flying from our local airport.
“This visit is a tremendous opportunity for the students.
“We look forward to being able to return this good will and welcome students from Hong Kong when they arrive at JLA for their visit to Merseyside next year.”
Exchangees from Fukien Secondary School visit Litherland High each July as part of the program.
They stay with a host families and enjoy visits to Liverpool, Chester and many other attractions.
