A Liverpool-based dance organisation could raise over £20,000 for its causes.
Merseyside Dance Initiative has been tasked with raising £5000 before 31st October by the nation Big Give Christmas Challenge.
The Initiative is seeking pledges from both private donors and large organisations and, if the £5K target is met, the money could effectively be quadrupled.
An external sponsor will match the money received by MDI and members of the public will then be able to donate to the cause during December.
This could see the initial £5000 rise to over £20,000, money which would fund the organisation’s dance and health activities next year.
MDI’s dance and health programme 'Move on Up' was selected for the scheme by Big Give bosses after being impressed by their outreach work.
Their outreach work offers people in the Northwest the chance to experience a variety of benefits that dance has to offer.
It also aims to inspire people through dance and to provide access and support to all those who engage in the activity.
Partners the organisation works with include Alder Hey Hospital, Aintree Hospital, Adults and Children with disabilities and Adults with Dementia and Parkinson’s.
Project Development Manager at Merseyside Dance Initiative Rachel Rogers said, "MDI's dance and health programme is so important for the organisation.
“For us, working with people from diverse communities who don't usually have access to this type of activity is vital.
“We're aiming to make a difference by working with individuals, groups and communities in places you might not expect to find dance.
“We know dance makes a difference, whether it's an adult who has dementia, a child with autism or a person recovering from an operation in a hospital bed.
“You only have to see the smiles on people's faces and feel the energy in the room to know that the work is of real value.”
The Big Give showcases the work of over 8,000 charities and runs a variety of programmes which help charities raise further income.
