Liverpool's Tracey Bell Clinic has become a city brand synonymous with both luxury and quality in the "beauty business."

Shown through to the treatment rooms from a spacious reception, the decor becomes somewhat more cosy, greeted with white leather sofas and comfy cushions while awaiting your therapy of choice.
Suffering from persistent blemishes on my chin for several months, I visited the clinic for a skin analysis and advice on the best care routine for my 'combination' skin type. Amiable aesthetician Suzanne Rollinson put me at ease, asking to remove my make up before a close up photograph was taken and assessed for the immediate, and future, needs of my complexion. Thankfully, the results were not too shocking.
With my problem chin area over-producing oil, known as sebum, Suzanne recommended a Purification Facial Peel - an intense combination of salicylic and maleic acid targeted to skin conditions such as acne and enlarged pores which reduces inflammation and prevents breakouts.
A prescriptive skincare range to treat all skin conditions from anti-ageing, acne, discolouration, redness and sun damage is available and Suzanne produced a customised treatment plan of SkinScription products for my skin care needs.
Friendly aesthetician Jennie Daniels carried out my treatment, with a mini-microdermabrasion beforehand to deeply exfoliate my skin. The process uses a vacuum suction, which feels oddly pleasant, somewhat like a cat gently licking your face, as fine abrasive crystals polish and resurface the skin.
Meeting the idea of a chemical peel with some trepidation, I soon realised my fears were needless. The entire treatment lasted just 15 minutes and was nowhere near as daunting as one might imagine.
Applied like any other face mask, with swiftness and care, Jennie explained that the acid works to encourage the sebum build up to lift to the surface of the skin and be easily cleaned away.
By no means a 'pamper' treatment, with a 20% acid content in the Purification peel, there was undeniably a fierce burning sensation for 2 or 3 minutes. Jennie combated this by cooling my face using a fan throughout, leaving the tingling sensation entirely bearable.
The word 'chemical' is perhaps what strikes terror into many, without giving much thought to the fact that we expose our skin to chemicals every day. The peels at Tracey Bell are an ultimately soothing, active therapy provided to enhance and replenish your skin.
Jennie instructed I wear a minimum of SPF 15 for the next few days and refrain from exfoliating. Warning me to expect a peeling of my skin similar to that experienced after a minor sun burn, she kindly enquired as to whether I had any special occasions in the days ahead. Thankfully, I didn't. As, true to her advice, 24 hours after the peel my chin and nose were flaky to say the least!
But now, seven days on, my skin feels renewed, the blemishes on my chin reduced and, fingers crossed, no signs of another break out occurring. At £130 a peel, and a recommended series of at least three treatments to see longer lasting results, some may feel it is out of their price range. Treat yourself. Consider it an investment worth making in order to look in the mirror and feel content with what is staring back. During my skin analysis, the radiance of my skin was registered as 'Very low', and it has to be said that my skin, and general mood, has felt brighter ever since.
