Relocating from Brighton ten years ago qualified masseuse Nicky, then pregnant, trained in specialist massage techniques for mother and baby, which she now bestows upon mums-and-dads-to-be during pregnancy, labour and beyond.
Zenchi's minimalist decor feels fresh and inviting, and extremely clean, which is most important for the expectant mothers amongst Nicky's client-base. Attending along with my 37-weeks pregnant friend, Rachel, who enjoyed Nicky's "New Beginnings" Pregnancy Massage, while I was placed in the gloriously gentle hands of Gill Hayes for a combination of Indian Head Massage and Reflexology.
Rachel described her all-over body massage as 'divine', with Nicky blending nourishing oils to improve skin elasticity and aid prevention of stretch marks on her "baby bump". Along with luxurious yet practical massage of the head, neck, lower back, arms, legs and feet designed to give relief to the special needs of the mother relieving tired, heavy legs and helping venous flow. The treatment is adapted to each trimester, and Nicky went the extra mile in advising Rachel on specific massage tips to teach 'Dad' for use during labour to ease tension and relieve pain. Welcome advice, I'm in no doubt, from the smile on Rachel's face as we greeted each other 75 minutes later.
Meanwhile, Gill's touch felt like magic as she combined her expertise in Indian Head Massage and Reiki to lull me into a relaxed trance for 45 minutes. Using a sweet-scented mix of essential oils, my hair was left wonderfully nourished the following day, although Gill recommended skipping the oils if you have plans for the evening. Luckily, I'd cleared my diary! Having never tried reflexology in the past, Gill insisted on showing my feet what they had been missing and I was instantly converted. So much more than a pedicure or foot rub, Gill's tender touch soothed away my aches and pains leaving me drifting into a snooze after just 20 minutes. Bliss!
