HD Brows are the latest celebrity beauty secret to be unleashed, allowing us 'ordinaries' to give our eyebrows an extraordinary makeover. With Katie Price, Cher Lloyd, Jenny Frost and even Duncan James from Blue amongst HD Brow's advocates, Click Liverpool decided to visit "Nicola Harris Beauty" in Allerton to find out what all the fuss is about.
Nicola Harris Beauty, located in a beautiful private town house adjacent to the Fire Station on Mather Avenue, is one of an exclusive few North West salons to offer the HD Brow treatment.
During a seven step programme, each brow is tinted, threaded, plucked, waxed and trimmed before mineral make up and brow pencil are applied to complete the HD look. All seven steps are said to produce the perfect brow.
My friendly beautician, Jo, carefully explained the process before beginning the 45 minute treatment, beginning by drawing the ideal shape onto each eyebrow.
"It's important to remember your brows are sisters, not twins," Jo explained as she carefully matches a tint to my colouring. Many women make the mistake of plucking too much leaving thin, harsh-looking brows as a result, whereas the HD Brow aims to soften the features, framing your face and allowing your natural beauty to shine.
Lying back with eyes closed, it is a far more relaxing procedure than I first expected, having had painful wax strips ripped from my eyelids in the past. Wax is used sparingly, at a lukewarm temperature, followed by precise tweezing and trimming with scissors - which is, admittedly, an unusual exercise in placing your trust in the beautician!
Expertly trained Jo advised my brows needed more time to grow into the shape, and spent a good deal of time filling in with pencil where my hairs should be encouraged to grow.
As I glanced in the mirror I was pleased with my tinted brows, but initially shocked at how thick the pencil appeared. Jo assured me I was to take a photograph and refer to the thick lines as as a guide if tempted to pluck whilst awaiting the next treatment in 4-6 weeks. If you are meeting a friend directly after the treatment, I'd advise you take your camera with you so you can record the shape and wipe clean some of the pencil which was a little too bold for my tastes.
Initial treatment is a pricey £25 compared to other brow tints and tweeks. However this is not just a trip to the salon, but an education in how to appreciate the natural shape of your brows. Once you've had two HD Brow consultations, it's all about maintaining the achieved shape needing only simple wax and tweeze sessions at a standard price.
Take valuable lessons against over-zealous plucking to achieve the thin look so many women falsely believe is best. Embrace your natural shape and your confidence will be boosted no end with HD Brows.
