Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has been stirring up a recipe for success at new Liverpool ONE restaurant Prego after attending a glitzy party to officially open the restaurant last night.
The Liverpool-born actress, who is known for her role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City, attended the restaurant’s opening party with her co-stars from Antony and Cleopatra, which closes at Liverpool’s Playhouse theatre this Saturday. Celebrity pals Steven and Alex Gerrard also made an appearance.
Cattrall has become a big fan of Prego’s modern Italian cuisine since her stay in Liverpool, enjoying a selection of the modern Italian dishes at the restaurant, as well as ordering her favourite dish of Linguine Vongole to enjoy directly on the set of Antony and Cleopatra.
Italian chef-restaurateur and owner of Prego, Franco Mercuri, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Kim accepted our invitation to officially open the restaurant.
"Kim loves Italian food and has become such a big fan of the restaurant since staying in the city because of its relaxed atmosphere and attention to detail.”
He added: “Unfortunately for us Kim will be going back to America at the weekend but we wanted to ensure we gave her the best possible send off and invited her and the rest of the Antony and Cleopatra cast to celebrate the end of production and to enjoy the official opening of our restaurant.”
Prego is the second business venture for owner Franco, who also owns an Aintree restaurant, which opened just two-years ago.
The menu, which in Franco’s own words ‘acts as a food map of the key food regions in Italy’, consists of dishes such as the Orecchiette Cimedirape with pasta from Puglia, sauces from Sicily, and breaded veal scallop from Milan, along with a selection of olives and charcuterie from all over the sun kissed region.
Specialising in fish and meat dishes from Italy, Prego is also one of the first restaurant’s in the North West to use the exclusive ‘hybrid’ Josper charcoal grill oven that is able to grill meat, fish and vegetables whilst ensuring that none of the natural moisture and flavour of the food escapes.
Kim, who is also well known for her leading roles in the 1980s films Police Academy and Mannequin, was joined by esteemed stage actor, Jeffery Kissoon who plays Antony, along with a host of celebrity and VIP guests.
Guests enjoyed a champagne reception, before tucking into a host of modern Italian cuisine favourites and canapés,
Franco added: “At Prego we understand that exceptional food is the secret to a great evening. Provenance and traceability is key. I am bored of fine dining Italian restaurants that are so formal they make the diner feel uncomfortable. “
“At Prego we want to reflect our passion for great food and service by greeting customers with a warm Italian welcome and giving them a relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable experience. “
Prego is open daily from 12-2.30pm and 5-11pm. To find out more visit www.pregoliverpool.com
