I see there is a move to try to limit the number of bars and eateries in Lark Lane and Allerton Road after complaints from residents.
I have some sympathy because it must be a shock to find that you have got a line of bars on your doorstep where there used to be shops.
Lark Lane and Allerton Road may be placed under new council guidelines to restrict new openings.
Smacks of King Canute to me... they will never hold back the tide that way.
The point is that the whole city is becoming "homogenised"... there are residential areas among the stores and bars in the city centre where 20 years ago there were virtually none.
By the same token the "party city" has spread out to the suburbs and I suspect there is little to be done about it if you are unlucky enough to live near a newly-opened rowdy bar.
Under a "cumulative impact policy order", planning officers will consider applications but residents' worries would be a priority.
In other words: "When it becomes a nuisance we will try to stop it becoming MORE of a nuisance."
Much good that will do!
