Spring has well and truly sprung... The birds are twittering in the trees while the human beings, its seems, are Twittering ever more on their computers.
Computers are everywhere and we could not do without them... but am I the only one that finds the Microsoft TV adverts and billboards with the slogan "I'm a PC" more than a little disturbing.
I find it a tad strange that they now feature children as young as six and seven years of age telling the tale of how they have created something special on their computers.
Do we need adverts to make children even more aware of computers? I don't think so!
To counter this can we expect to see adverts aimed at youngsters for playing in the park with friends, riding a bike or even tending a plot in the garden?
All these healthy activities seldom get high-profile promotion to young minds and yet they are much better for their development, mental and physical well-being, than sitting in front of a computer.
When I was a kid we roamed around at will. The entire neighbourhood or town was ours to explore and when we were not in school the live-long-day lasted from 8am to sunset. Most paranoid parents of today will not let their children roam for fear that something terrible will befall them. I understand that but it is at the root of a problem that blights childhood today.
Perhaps the NHS in Liverpool could take a lead in changing attitudes.
The Liverpool NHS Primary Care Trust seems to have money to burn on public awareness campaigns... the latest being a plan to teach take-away food outlets how to cook more healthy meals.
Again, can I be the only one to think that this is well-meaning but a little bit back to front? Surely it would make more sense to spend more money on teaching people how to cook healthy meals for themselves rather than teaching the folk in the kebab shops how to reduce the fat in their meals?
There are efforts afoot to teach children in primary schools the importance of healthy eating and exercise, but I think that element of the campaign needs stepping up a gear with some proper TV advertising and imaginative promotion on the internet itself.
Let's use the power of computers to prompt children to get out and about more.... with their paranoid parents if necessary.
